During the spring it can be so fun to drive around and see so many different baby animals. There are calves, colts, lambs, kids, chicks, bunnies, etc. There are so many animals being born in the spring no wonder many of them are symbols of the spring season. Carve Me A Bear! Chainsaw Carvings will go over what a few of these animals are and why they have become part of the wonderful season of spring.
Spring Bunnies or Rabbits
Bunnies or rabbits are a huge symbol of spring. You often hear about the Easter bunny, but do you ever wonder where the Easter bunny actually came from? The hare was a sacred animal of the Germanic goddess of spring, Eostro. She is believed to have created the Easter bunny. There are a few versions that people believe. One is that she transformed a bird whose wings were frozen into a rabbit. Even though she turned the bird into a rabbit that rabbit was still able to lay eggs. Another version is she was annoyed with a bird that laid beautiful eggs. So, she turned that bird into a rabbit but the rabbit was still able to lay beautiful eggs once a year. Now whether you believe this to be true or not, rabbits and bunnies have become a part of spring. They are a part of spring because they are a big symbol of fertility. Bunnies can have babies every 28-30 days. In spring it brings new life to animals, trees, and flowers every year. With bunnies being able to reproduce as often as they can they have become a big symbol of spring.
Baby Chicks in Spring
Baby chicks, chickens, and eggs are another symbol of spring. For Easter, many people decorate Easter eggs or hide Easter eggs. Another reason why it has become a symbol is Catholics have a tradition called Lent. During lent they fast and they are not allowed to eat animal products, that even includes eggs. As Lent ends at the time of Easter, they are often left with an abundance of eggs they can eat. Chickens will produce more eggs when there is more light. Spring brings on more light during the day which can help the chickens lay more eggs. If those eggs are fertilized by a passing rooster then you will get cute little fuzzy baby chicks.
Lamb Spring Season
Just like with bunnies and chicks, baby sheep (lambs) and even goats (kids) are a part of spring. Many baby animals can be associated with spring because spring is about bringing new life in, and many animals are born during the spring. Lambs can stick out more for spring because it is also a symbol of Jesus Christ and in many Christian religions Christ is the center and reason to celebrate Easter. But with many lambs and even goats being white, they can be a symbol of spring being clean and pure and bringing new life into this world.
