You may have noticed that Clark the Carver from Carve Me a Bear! Chainsaw Carvings was spotlighted on Channel 8 News in February. The clip was an honor and a great way to get the word out about what Clark the Carver does and why he does it. Carve Me a Bear! Chainsaw Carvings is here to get a little more in depth about the history of chainsaw carving and how Clark got started.
Clark Became a Chainsaw Carving Artist in 1986
In 1986, Clark the Carver found himself in an apprenticeship carving with a chainsaw. No matter what he made, he was selling it. Not only was it selling, but he could barely keep up with the demand. As fast as Clark could carve, people were lining up to buy his art. This is when he decided there might be something to chainsaw carvings as a full time business.
Clark the Chainsaw Carver is Doing What He Loves
Clark shares residency between Montana in the hot summer months and Las Vegas during the rest of the year. In both places, he carves and sells his artwork. We can’t think of an animal or object that Clark the Carver hasn’t sculpted out of wood during the last three decades. With the use of several different customized chainsaws and other tools, he can carve any animal you choose as well as items like guitars and welcome signs. With several different types of chainsaws that can create different cuts, there isn’t anything out there that he can’t carve out of wood!
Meeting People Through Carving
Clark the Carver will be the first to tell you, he doesn’t create his carvings to get rich. He is able to pay his bills and do what he loves to do. Not only does he get to put his raw talent of chainsaw carving to use, but he meets a variety of people from all walks of life while doing it. He enjoys getting to use his talent and meeting good people in the process. His advice for anyone looking into becoming a chainsaw carving is “It’s all about trusting in your heart and trusting in you art and believing that God’s going to take care of you“.
