Carve Me A Bear! Chainsaw Carving List Characteristics of Bald Eagles & Golden Eagles

Endangered Bald Eagle Facts: When you think of the type of eagle that is best known as an American staple the bald eagle is that bird. The bald eagle has a white head that is very iconic with a solid yellow beak. The bald eagle has been used to symbolize freedom in America and is highly recognized for its grandeur. The size of a bald eagle may be shocking to some with a wing span that can reach up to seven feet in length. They can weight up to 15 pounds and have a length that is up to 38 inches. That is a large bird but usually soaring high above the ground may not seem so. They choose to live in areas that have a close proximity to water since their food of choice is fish, snakes and even ducks. Although this is the majority of their diet they will dine on rabbits, mice and other dead animals that it may come across. Now imagine this huge bird swooping down from high up in the sky straight towards the land at 100 miles per hour. This is how they get a hold of their prey swooping it up from the ground or water with their huge talons. The nations bird was on a drastic decline in the 50’s and needed some major attention to get it back to a sustainable number. The efforts have since paid off and the bald eagle remains.
Golden Eagles: The golden eagle is a huge majestic bird that is the national bird of Mexico. The species is protected since it was highly sought after in fear that farmers thought the large bird would kill their animals. The golden eagle is the largest bird of prey in North America and has a wing span that covers more than seven feet. They are a beautiful dark brown coloring with golden feathers that encase the head and neck area. They choose to feed on small animals but will also look for fish and other aquatic animals to feed on. They do use their speed and swooping power to attack prey. They are able to fly at over 150 miles per hour and have been known to take out a full grown deer.
