Uses for Sawdust in Your Home & Garden; Briquettes, Hamster Bedding, Wood Fillers & More

A chainsaw carver is able to take a piece of wood that has been prepped and dried out and carve it. This can be any type of carving that they are solicited to do or something that they have wanted to create. Some of the carvings that Clark is known for are bears, birds, dogs and of course custom name signs. When you have the wood carved with a chainsaw or really any other tool there is going to be wood that is chipped away. This can be a messy process and the wood that is chipped away happens to be called sawdust. It may seem like a mess to some and something that has to be thrown out but there are actually many uses for sawdust. The sawdust can come in different sizes and some can be finer than others.

Carve Me A Bear! Chainsaw Carvings Lists Ways that Sawdust Can Be Used

Sawdust Briquettes: The first and the use that most people know about happens to be that sawdust can be used as fuel. Of course if you are trying to start and keep a fire going you need all levels of wood. The smaller pieces of wood can be used to start the fire and get it going and the larger pieces can keep the fire going. The way that you can utilize the sawdust for fuel is to mix it with another product to make it useful. Many people will take the sawdust and melt some candle wax over it and allow it to dry. Once it is ready it can act as a light and candle type object so you can see well for a short period of time. Some people even mix sawdust with paper pulp to make briquettes.
Sawdust Hamster Bedding: If you go to a pet store and you want to pick up a new pet like a gerbil or a hamster the amount of supplies you need may seem overwhelming. Of course you need to continue to buy food for the animal that you choose but you also have to use a material for inside the cage. This can be some type of paper project or it can be wood chips. The wood chips or sawdust is great to use inside a cage. The reason that you use this type of material is to help absorb the moisture from urine as well as water that they might spill. The wood will soak all this up and keep your house from having an unwanted odor.
Sawdust Wood Fillers: If you have any wood furniture of artwork you know that there are areas that can have small gaps and holes. These are sometimes a wonderful addition to the look of the project. Sometimes they happen to be a nuisance. That is why some workers will use sawdust to fill in some of the gaps and mix it with some wood glue. This is a great way to use the same material and have little to no visible difference.
