Wood Chainsaw Carvings of Marsupials; Kangaroos, Koalas, Sugar Gliders & More

The number of animals that live on the planet are astronomical. You can find certain animals in some regions while others can’t exist in that atmosphere. Scientists put a lot of effort into naming, categorizing and learning all they can about each of these animals. With all the animals that exist most people have some that they love or deem their favorite. One of the types that you can look at that could be one of your favorites are marsupials. They are an animal that has a very unique characteristic that sets them apart from other animals. It is also what makes them cute and endearing to many people. Marsupials happen to have a pouch on their body that the mother will keep their young while they are growing. This allows the young to grow under the protection of the mother. If you are lucky you will be able to see the tiny one sticking out from the mothers pouch. There are some common marsupials that are loved by many people.

Kangaroo: One of the most commonly thought of animals when you ask about marsupials is the kangaroo. This Australian grown, hopping critter is a beautiful specimen and seem to have unique personalities that people love to see. They are an animal that stands on their very powerful hind feet that they also use as a way to defend themselves. They use their tail to lean on and kick out their hind feet to give any attacker or someone they don’t want around away from them. The tail is another huge part of who they are. It is part of the reason that they are able to hop and the speed that they can. The females have a pouch of skin that allows their baby a place to be kept safe. The baby when it is born is only about the size of a grape so it has to be kept alive in the pouch as well as protected.
Koala: The koala is another animal that is in the category of a marsupial. The problem is that many people think that they are a bear since that is what their name is. They are not related to bears in any way and are a marsupial. The mother koala will hold their tiny baby in their pouch for about six months. Then the baby comes out and will keep hold of the mother either under her belly or on her back. They are a cute fuzzy animal that people love to watch chow down eucalyptus leaves while their young baby hitches a ride. They also have a very distinct look in terms of their nose and face.
Sugar Glider: If you think that only larger animals can have a pouch and be a marsupial you would be wrong. A small marsupial that works in the same way is called a sugar glider and they happen to be able to house more than one baby in their pouch. They get their name from the foods that they love that are high in sugar and the fact that they can glide through the sky with their spanned out body. They are kept as a pet in some homes that have the knowledge on how to best care for them.
