They can live about 15 years and are usually a tan, yellow and sometimes grey in color. The have a white under body and white on the tail. They are very muscular and are able to care for themselves around other critters that they may come in contact with. They should not be confused with a bobcat because they are much bigger and have a long tail that is often the same length as their body. They are usually about 30 inches in height from the floor to the shoulder and can weigh up to 140 pounds. They are a majestic hunter that stalks its prey!
Desert Tortoise: If you want to go with a carving that represents the state as the official reptile, the desert tortoise is for you. They are an endangered species that is protected and looked after around the state of Nevada. They are a four legged reptile that lives in a shell that is often colored tan, brown and nearly black. These colors help them to hide in their surroundings while the shell protects them from predators. The habitat loss and predators have diminished their life around the state. They can grow to be quite large in their nearly 70 years of life.
Owls: Nevada is home to several species of owls that are a fun sight to see. They should be out in the wilderness but as development has encroached in their area they are seen on buildings and in neighborhoods as well. One owl that is fun to see and has a great look is the great horned owl. They are often a foot and half tall with a wing span that can easily reach five feet. They often have colors that range from yellow and tan to brown and black. They also have white accents that can be seen on their belly and near their ears. In their natural habitat they can live up to 15 years old.
