Carve Me A Bear! Chainsaw Carvings Lists Some Fun & Interesting Facts About Beavers

Orange Beaver Teeth: One of the most well-known characteristics are their big front teeth! It is a necessary part of who they are and what they do on a daily basis. The most interesting thing about their teeth is that they are actually not white but orange! Some people assume that they are just dirty and they must have iffy hygiene but they are actually supposed to be orange. They use their teeth as their main tool and they have to be very sturdy and strong. That is why they have not only the same white enamel that we have but they have an added iron deposit as well. The iron additive causes the teeth to be orange in color but extremely strong as well. The other great thing is that the teeth sharpen naturally because the enamel on the back of the teeth doesn’t have the iron and will wear down faster making a sharper surface for the beaver to use.
Beaver Tail Tool: If you see a beaver and the teeth are not visible then you might be seeing their tail. If you do then there is a great chance that you will be able to determine what you are looking at based solely on the tail. They have a long, flat and leathery tail that they use in many ways. The flat and hair free surface is great for them to use in the water where they are able to swim. They also use it to alert others that there may be some level of danger coming by hitting the top of the water. They also use it to balance themselves as they collect the wood that they will use to make a dam.
Beaver Dam Construction: It seems that if you see a beaver they are constantly coming and going with a bit of wood in their mouth. They are not just grabbing any piece of wood they can find but they are chewing down the pieces that they need. The wood is whittled down the to the size that the beaver needs to construct the dam that they are surely building. The dam that they are working on will help them to deepen the lake that is behind the dam. The deeper the water the less likely it is that the water will freeze and the beaver will be able to have food through the winter.
